The Joy of Community begins around the table

The Joy of Community is a global tapestry of neighbors nurturing belonging and the common good by sharing stories, resources, and discovering mutuality at the block and neighborhood level. We encourage neighbors not simply to doing things for one another, but to be with one another. We are better together.

What is Joy of Community?

The Joy of Community is a simple, human way of helping neighbors become neighbors. It invites people to build real relationships where they live through small, repeatable practices like sharing a meal, knocking on a door, or gathering around a table. It is not a program or a service, but a way of being with one another. Through invitation, presence, and mutuality, strangers begin to feel familiar, trust starts to grow, and a sense of belonging takes root right outside our front doors.

At a time when many people feel lonely and isolated, The Joy of Community focuses on what is already near. It begins with something simple like coffee and donuts in a front yard, and over time grows into rhythms of connection, care, and shared life. Neighbors look out for one another, stories are exchanged, and the common good begins to take shape. What starts as a small gathering can become a neighborhood of trust, reminding us that the life we long for is not far away, but waiting to be discovered together.

Meet Nancy + Brad

"Finding the courage to host our first breakfast on our street became a launchpad for courage beyond our block. From that one simple gathering, lifelong friendships formed, and an entire autism community opened up to us. I don't think we would have taken that path if it weren't for that first breakfast."
